Threading your fly:

.Threader diagram
  1. Hold the threader with the line groove face-up and horizontal to your body. Position the hook-eye so it is across the line of the line groove and located in the notch. (Depending on the hook shank bend and the fly type, the direction the hook is facing may vary.) The magnet will hold the fly in place.
  1. Grasp the line about 40 mm (1.5 inch.) from the cut end. If the line is curved, rotate it so that it so that the curve of the line matches the curve of the line groove. Insert it into the groove and slide it towards the fly hook-eye until it passes through.
  1. Grasp the end of the line and gently lift it vertically (the fly will be threaded if it lifts off with the line) then tie the fly off. If the fly doesn't lift with the line, check the position of the hook-eye and try again.

Lanyard should be worn bandolier fashion across the chest, or attached to a buttonhole or epaulette.
